What I Believe
I believe in the mystery that God is three in one – God the Father, God the Son – that is, Jesus who came to earth and was fully God and fully man, and God the Holy Spirit whom God sends to live with us and in us.
I believe that God created the universe, and that he created us so that he might fully express the depths of his sacrificial love and grace through his kindness to us. This kindness was manifest in the coming of Jesus to earth where, out of love for and obedience to his Father, he offered himself, perfect and blameless, as a sacrifice for us and was crucified on a cross.
At the cross a divine exchange took place – he carried our sin that we might be made holy; he took the blame for us that we might be set free; he bore our shame that we might be lifted up; he was cursed that we might be blessed; he carried our pain that we might enjoy freedom.
I believe that after three days, God raised Jesus from death, and that he lives forever, seated at the right hand of God the Father. I believe that the death and resurrection of Jesus opens the way for all who would so choose to come into the very presence of God and enjoy a relationship with him forever. This precious gift is given freely, and can be received by anyone who would turn from their sin and put their faith and hope in Jesus. We can not earn this privilege through our own good works, and there is no other way to be put right with God than through Jesus his Son.
I believe that the Bible is the true and living Word of God, that the writings that make up the Bible were inspired by God, and that they reveal to us the true nature and character of God, as well as the nature of our relationship to him and his plans and purposes for us. I believe we can get to know God through the Bible, and that it has the power to transform us as the Holy Spirit speaks to us from it.
I believe that those who have been put right with God through Jesus Christ together make up the Body of Christ, that we are one, that we need each other, and that God chooses to work through us to carry out his purposes in the world today.
